Quiet times, more trains and Green Festival!

That sums up our weekend! On Saturday Greg took the girls down to see his sister and her kids, who were visiting from New Jersey. Surprisingly enough, they had plans to do to the train museum! So the girls got to go again, and Greg was thrilled that he was able to go, as he was a tad bit jealous of us going the other day! The girls had a great time, and Analese came back full of stories about what her cousins did ("Tyler was spitting at Carlee") and new words to describe them ("Carlee was being a slow-poke, Mom"). Unfortunately for Greg, it was "Steam Engine Days" this weekend, so their ride consisted of both girls crying the whole time because of the noise of the whistle!
While they were away doing that, I was able to actually study! I got caught up on projects due-it was so nice!

On Sunday, we went down to D.C for the Green Festival. We had gone last year and had a great time, so we couldn't wait to go again this year. It was fun, but a bit tougher this year-as Analese was not as compliant this year to just do what we wanted to do! As soon as we got there, she was upset because she wanted to go left when we had to go right. We knew we were in trouble! But overall, things went well and we got information on lots of new products we want to try and got to see all the new earth-friendly materials that are coming out.

Analese got to make a kite, which we had lots of fun trying out! It was so funny-she would get it up in the air until she turned to look at it.

On the way back to our car, we had a pretty harrowing experience. Walking across the street-in the crosswalk- Greg, while holding Analese, almost got hit with by a bus. One extra step and this story would have a very different ending. He actually hit the bus with his hand, it is unbelievable just how close he was to being hit. I cannot even put into words how it felt to watch this happen and all the emotions connected to it. As we walked the three blocks to our car, I was shaking uncontrollably and would have completely lost it if not for the fact that Greg was even more freaked out....so I had no choice but keep it together. We called 911 and filed a report against the bus driver, which I found to be a better option then what Greg wanted to do. He was very close to leaving us and going to hunt down the bus!
So not a great way to end the day, and the car ride home was a quiet one....OK, as quiet as it can be with two very tired girls!

This morning Analese is having a speech assessment done to see if speech therapy is needed. She has been using "P" for "S" for some time now, so we want to change this before it really becomes a habit. She is already starting to become confused when other children cannot understand her, so the last thing I want is for her to become self-conscience about speaking. So wish us luck that the therapist will actually hear words for her today-it can go either way!

Good luck today with the speech therapist! I'll be thinking of you.
Thank GOD Greg and Analese are o.k. after that harrowing experience with the bus! Was Analese scared? Oh....I just can't even think about it....

Peace is every step said...

My goodness, my biggest fear--thank God everything turned out okay. I always wonder why things like that happen....probably for a reason-that memory will stick with you all forever & make the kids extra careful around roads.

Analese didn't realize what had happened, and just kept asking Greg why he hit the bus. Later she said, very seriously, "Daddy, you CAN'T hit the bus". I refused to talk about it on the way to the car, because I didn't want the girls freaking out as much as we were, and every time Greg said something I stopped him and reminded him about the girls. He called 911 while the girls and I were in the van.
It was so odd. The bus was actually stopped across the street when we first began walking, so it wasn't like we saw him coming down the street or had any time to react. That is the scariest thing for me-there was nothing we could do to prevent it. The driver saw us-I am sure, as he honked his horn AS he sped away. He didn't pull off slowly-he would have hit them as he was accelerating. As fast as he was going...it would have been my worst nightmare.
It's so hard to think about.....

I know taking you to a speech therapist really improved your speech so hopefully it will do the same for Analese. Your guardian angels were with your family, that's for sure. Still, the thoughts of what if...can shake you up tremendously.
